Chapter 10 - A New Foundation

By midnight, Maya finally stepped out of the Waldorf and into the crisp, cool air of the city. The streets were quiet, a sharp contrast to the dramatic theater of the ballroom. She hailed a cab, sinking into the leather seat with a deep exhale.

For years, Maya had been told that she had to mold herself to fit into the world of the elite—that she had to play their games, learn their unspoken rules, and tolerate their prejudices. Tonight proved them all wrong. She didn't have to play by their rules. She could rewrite the code entirely.

As her phone buzzed in her purse with an incoming email from Chairman Harrison—a formal request for her to lead the ethics committee—Maya smiled. It was a genuine smile this time, not a smirk of victory, but an expression of quiet hope. The old guard was broken. It was time to build something new.
