Chapter 11: The Final Echo

Winter arrived early, blanketing the suburban streets in a quiet, sparkling layer of white snow. It was on a freezing Tuesday evening that David received a phone call from an unfamiliar number.
It was his attorney.
"David, I wanted to give you a quick update," the lawyer said, his tone professional but carrying a hint of finality. "Eleanor was detained this afternoon by the county police."
David stopped wiping down the kitchen counter, his grip tightening on the sponge. "Did she try to come to the house?"
"No," the attorney replied. "She caused a disturbance at a local bank and got into an altercation. Because of her recent erratic behavior and the active restraining order on file, they ordered a psychiatric evaluation. Her sister is flying in from out of state to take over her care and move her into an assisted living facility closer to the coast."
David exhaled a breath he felt he had been holding for months. "So, she's leaving the state?"
May you like
"Yes. She won't be a problem for you or your children anymore, David. It’s officially over."
Hanging up the phone, David looked out the kitchen window at the falling snow. The domestic thriller they had been living in had finally reached its conclusion. The villain hadn't been defeated with violence, but with boundaries, the law, and the uncompromising strength of a father's love.
