Chapter 7: The New Normal

They named him James.
The first few weeks at home with a newborn were a blur of sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, and the quiet, rhythmic hum of the breast pump. Yet, beneath the exhaustion, there was an undeniable current of tranquility running through the house. The anxiety that had once hung over Lena like a dark cloud was entirely gone.
Mark proved to be a steadfast partner. He handled the night shifts whenever possible, pacing the living room with a swaddled James against his chest so Lena could steal a few precious hours of sleep. He made sure Lily never felt left out, dedicating his evenings to building elaborate block towers and reading extra bedtime stories.
One evening, as Mark walked into the nursery, he found Lena rocking James to sleep in the dim light of the floor lamp. She looked up, her tired eyes reflecting a deep, settled contentment.
"He has your nose," she whispered, tracing a finger down the baby’s face.
