Clara gently covered Lily’s trembling hands with her own, opening the small velvet box together. Resting inside on a bed of dark silk was a beautifully polished, vintage brass compass.

Arthur gasped softly, immediately understanding the weight of the gift.

"I wanted to surprise you," Clara explained, her voice thick with emotion as she brushed Lily’s blonde hair behind her ear. "Because you always found your way back to us, Arthur. Even in the darkest moments, you were our true North."

Arthur reached out, taking the compass and examining the intricate engraving on the back: To always find your way home.

He looked at his daughter, whose tears had finally stopped, replaced by a tentative, hopeful smile. "This is the best secret anyone has ever kept for me, Lily," Arthur said, his voice thick with unshed tears. "Thank you for guarding it so carefully."

Lily giggled, wiping the last of the dampness from her freckled cheeks. The heavy burden of the secret lifted entirely, replaced by the warm, grounding reality of her parents' love. Together, the three of them stood up from the marble floor, dusting off their elegant clothes, ready to face the music playing softly in the distance.
