Chapter 16: The Vows

The grand ballroom was bathed in warm, golden light. Surrounded by close friends, chosen family, and the resilient women from Clara’s shelter, Arthur and Clara stood at the altar. Lily stood proudly between them, her sparkly lace dress catching the light, holding a small pillow with their new rings.
"Ten years ago, we promised to love each other through better or worse," Arthur began, looking deeply into Clara's eyes. "We survived the worst. You showed me what true strength looks like, Clara. You built a sanctuary from our pain, and every day, I am in awe of your grace."

Clara smiled, squeezing his hands. "When the world was terrifying, you were my safe harbor," she replied, her voice steady and clear. "You didn't just rescue me; you stood by me while I learned how to rescue myself. This next chapter isn't about survival. It's about joy."
They exchanged the new rings, sealing a decade of healing and unbreakable partnership. As the officiant pronounced the renewal of their vows, the room erupted into joyous applause. Arthur kissed his wife, then scooped Lily up into his arms, the vintage compass resting safely in his tuxedo pocket.
