Chapter 10 - The Weight of Recognition

Richard sank slowly into his chair.

For the first time in decades, he looked like a man—not a figure of authority, not a strategist, not a decision-maker.

Just a man facing the consequences of something he could no longer control.

“I made choices,” he said. “I told myself they were necessary.”

“They were convenient,” Elara corrected gently.

He nodded, accepting it.

“I can’t undo that.”

“No,” Elara agreed. “You can’t.”

Victoria stepped forward hesitantly. “But we can fix this. We can make this right.”

Elara looked at her—not unkindly.

“Can you?” she asked.

Victoria faltered.

Because some things cannot be repaired by intention alone.

Daniel exhaled sharply. “So what happens now? You expose us? Destroy everything?”

Elara considered the question.

“No,” she said finally.

That surprised him.

“I’m not here to destroy,” she continued. “I’m here to decide.”

“Decide what?” Richard asked.

Elara stepped closer to the table again, resting her hand lightly beside the photograph.

“Whether this family deserves a future.”
