Chapter 3 - The Arrival

Richard Cross had not spoken much during the evening.

He was a man who preferred control through silence, through presence rather than noise. But now, standing near the towering glass windows, his stillness had turned into something else entirely.

Alarm.

He stared into the darkness beyond the glass.

At first, it was just light.

Distant. Faint. Easy to dismiss.

But it grew.

Headlights—multiple sets—cut through the night, moving fast. Too fast for a quiet residential driveway. Engines rumbled, low and aggressive, the sound vibrating faintly through the glass.

Then came the unmistakable formation.

A convoy.

“Daniel…” Richard said slowly, his voice tightening. “What have you done?”

The younger man turned, confusion flashing across his face.

“I didn’t—”

But the words died in his throat.

Because now he saw it too.

The vehicles were closing in, their headlights blazing like a wall of white fire. Gravel crunched violently as they tore up the driveway, stopping just short of the house in perfect, deliberate alignment.

Inside the dining room, the air shifted.

Victoria took a step back.

“No… no, this isn’t—”

Elara rose from her chair.

Gracefully.

As if none of this surprised her.

She held her phone loosely in her hand, her gaze fixed forward, her expression cold and precise. The blood on her face had begun to dry, but it only made her look more composed, more untouchable.

She took one step.

Then another.

And finally spoke.

“I’ve called the people…” she said softly.

Outside, car doors opened in unison.

Heavy footsteps followed.

Measured. Controlled. Inevitable.

Elara’s eyes flicked briefly toward the door.

Then back to the three of them.

“…who handle situations like this.”

For the first time that night, Daniel felt something colder than anger.

May you like

Fear.

And it was only just beginning.
