Chapter 16 - The Breaking Point

Daniel found her in the dining room one evening—the same room where everything had started.
“You could have destroyed me,” he said.
Elara didn’t look up. “I still could.”
He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. “Then why didn’t you?”
Now she met his eyes.
“Because destruction is easy,” she said. “Living with what you’ve done isn’t.”
He nodded slowly.
“I was angry,” he admitted. “But that doesn’t excuse it.”
“No,” Elara agreed. “It doesn’t.”
A long pause followed.
“I don’t expect forgiveness,” he added.
