Chapter 6: Sanctuary and Justice

The police precinct was loud and chaotic, a stark contrast to the sterile quiet of Clara's home. She approached the front desk, her heavily bandaged hands drawing immediate attention from the duty officer.

"I need to report an assault," Clara said quietly. "And I have video evidence."

Within ten minutes, she was seated in a quiet interrogation room with Detective Ramirez, a seasoned investigator with a gentle demeanor. Clara recounted the events of the previous night, her voice steadying as she spoke. She handed over the SD card.

Ramirez loaded the file onto his laptop. As the video played, the detective's professional composure slipped into a hard, cold anger. The high-definition footage left no room for doubt: Mark’s brutal attack and Eleanor’s callous commentary were captured perfectly.

"We are sending paramedics in to look at those burns right now," Detective Ramirez said, closing his laptop. "And then, Mrs. Davis, we are going to arrest your husband. You are safe now."

For the first time since the ordeal began, Clara allowed her tears to fall freely.
