Chapter 20 - Moving Forward

It was Lily’s seventh birthday.
Sarah stood on the porch, wearing a bright yellow sundress, watching her daughter chase her friends through the sprinklers. The laughter was loud, joyous, and untainted by fear. David stood next to Sarah, holding two glasses of lemonade. He handed one to her, a warm smile on his face.
"She looks happy," David observed, watching Lily twirl in the water.

"She is," Sarah replied, taking a sip. "We both are."
The trauma of the previous year would never be entirely erased, but it had been paved over with resilience, community, and an unshakeable maternal bond. Sarah looked at her healthy, vibrant daughter, taking a deep breath of the warm summer air. The green bin was long gone, replaced by a beautiful bed of blooming hydrangeas. Life, in all its messy, fragile glory, had beautifully and triumphantly moved forward.
