Chapter 8 - The Diagnosis

In the hospital, Sarah leaped from her chair as the doctor approached. "Is she alright? Is my baby okay?"
The doctor offered a reassuring, albeit tired, smile. "She is stable, Sarah. We got to her just in time. Her airway was severely constricted, and her blood pressure had plummeted."
"What caused it?" Sarah asked, her voice shaking. "Was she... was she hurt?"
"No physical trauma," the doctor explained. "It was a severe allergic reaction. Anaphylactic shock. We administered epinephrine, and she is responding well. Does Lily have any known allergies?"
Sarah’s eyes widened in horror. "Peanuts. She is violently allergic to peanuts. Everyone at the party knew that. The invitations clearly stated it was a nut-free zone. We didn't serve anything with peanuts."

"Well, she ingested one," the doctor said gently. "And whoever was with her when she collapsed didn't call for help. They panicked."
The realization hit Sarah like a freight train. This wasn't a malicious attack by a stranger. This was a cover-up.
