Chapter 4 - The Lockdown

The wail of sirens pierced the quiet neighborhood long before the police cruiser screeched to a halt at the curb. Red and blue emergency lights washed over the suburban lawn, casting eerie, frantic shadows against the side of the house.

A uniformed police officer stepped out of the vehicle. His eyes scanned the chaotic scene—the weeping mother on the grass, the neighbor on the phone, and the three bystanders on the porch who were staring in mute horror. He approached with a heavy, purposeful stride, his expression stern and unyielding.

"What happened here?" the officer demanded, taking in the open trash bin and the limp child. "Who abandoned this child in the trash can?"

At those words, a profound shift occurred within Sarah. The shock and despair that had paralyzed her moments ago burned away, replaced by an inferno of maternal rage. She held Lily just as tightly, but her tears stopped falling.

Sarah slowly looked up from her daughter's pale face. She turned her gaze toward the porch, her eyes locking onto the two women and the older man who hadn't moved an inch to help. Someone at this party had done this. Someone she knew.

Her expression hardened into absolute, fierce determination.

"No one is to leave," Sarah stated, her voice trembling not with fear, but with absolute authority. "No one leaves this yard until I find out who touched my daughter."
