Chapter 10 - The Enemy Inside The Hotel.

The door handle moved slowly.

Everyone inside the archive room froze.

Charlotte held the envelope from her mother tightly.

Daniel stepped closer to the entrance.

Amelia's expression showed something Charlotte had never seen before.

Fear.

Not panic.

Not confusion.

Real fear.

"They know I am here."

Amelia whispered.

Charlotte looked at her.

"Who?"

Amelia did not answer immediately.

Because the answer was already clear.

The same people who had spent years hiding the truth.

The same people who had controlled the hotel from behind closed doors.

The same people who believed Charlotte would never return.

The handle stopped moving.

For several seconds,

nothing happened.

Then a voice came from the other side.

"Daniel."

Everyone looked at each other.

It was not a stranger.

It was someone from inside the hotel.

Daniel's face changed.

He recognized the voice.

"Who is it?"

Charlotte asked.

Daniel lowered his voice.

"The head of security."

Charlotte frowned.

"Why would security be here?"

Nobody answered.

Because everyone already understood.

Someone had sent him.

Daniel slowly opened the door.

A tall man stood outside.

He wore a dark security uniform.

His expression was professional.

Too professional.

"Mr. Hayes."

The man said.

"Everything is under control."

Daniel looked at him carefully.

"Why are you here?"

The security chief looked past him.

His eyes immediately moved toward Amelia.

For a brief second,

his calm expression disappeared.

That small reaction was enough.

Charlotte noticed.

"You know her."

The man looked at Charlotte.

"I do not."

Charlotte stepped forward.

"You recognized her."

The man remained silent.

Daniel moved between them.

"Answer her."

The security chief looked uncomfortable.

"I was instructed to check this area."

"By who?"

Another silence.

Charlotte already knew.

"Victoria."

The man's expression changed.

That was the answer.

Daniel looked disappointed.

"I cannot believe this."

The security chief tried to explain.

"You do not understand."

Charlotte interrupted.

"No."

She said calmly.

"We understand perfectly."

"You were sent because someone wanted to know what we found."

The man looked away.

Charlotte walked closer.

"You are not protecting this hotel."

"You are protecting a secret."

The security chief did not respond.

Because he knew she was right.

After several tense moments,

he finally spoke.

"I never wanted to be involved."

Charlotte studied him.

"Then why are you?"

The man sighed.

"Because people above me made decisions."

"People with influence."

"People who could destroy careers."

Daniel looked at him.

"Richard Sterling?"

The security chief said nothing.

But silence was enough.

Charlotte turned away.

Another person.

Another connection.

Another piece of evidence.

The entire hotel had been shaped by fear.

Later that night,

Charlotte opened the envelope from her mother.

She sat alone in her father's old office.

The letter inside was written years earlier.

Her mother's handwriting looked delicate.

But the words were powerful.

"My dear Charlotte,

If you are reading this,

then the truth has finally found its way back to you."

Charlotte continued.

"I need you to understand something.

Your father and I never wanted you to inherit a battle.

We wanted you to have a normal life."

Charlotte paused.

A tear fell onto the paper.

"But some people believe power belongs only to those who can take it."

She kept reading.

"The Valmont Hotel was never just a building.

It was a promise.

A promise that honesty mattered more than wealth."

Charlotte looked at the old room around her.

Then she reached the final part.

"Trust Amelia.

Trust Daniel.

But be careful with those who smile too easily."

Charlotte slowly lowered the letter.

Because one person immediately came to her mind.

Victoria Sterling.

The next morning,

Charlotte called an emergency meeting.

Every board member arrived.

Victoria entered last.

She looked calm.

Confident.

Almost amused.

"You called this meeting?"

Charlotte nodded.

"Yes."

Victoria sat down.

"And what exactly do you want?"

Charlotte placed several documents on the table.

"I want answers."

Victoria smiled.

"About what?"

Charlotte looked directly at her.

"About why your family spent years trying to control something that was never yours."

The room became silent.

Victoria's expression changed.

Only slightly.

But Charlotte noticed.

"You know about Richard."

Victoria said nothing.

"You know about my father."

Still nothing.

"You know about Amelia."

For the first time,

Victoria looked genuinely surprised.

Charlotte leaned forward.

"And now I know something else."

Victoria stared at her.

"What?"

Charlotte opened the final document.

A copy of an old agreement.

A hidden agreement.

One that proved Richard Sterling never legally owned any part of the hotel.

The room erupted with whispers.

Victoria's confidence disappeared.

Charlotte looked at her.

"The Sterling family built its power on a lie."

A long silence followed.

Then Victoria slowly smiled.

Not because she was winning.

Because she had realized something.

Charlotte had found the documents.

But she had not found everything.

"There is one thing you still do not know."

Victoria said.

Charlotte remained calm.

"What?"

Victoria leaned back.

"The reason your father disappeared."

The room became silent.

Charlotte's expression changed.

Because even after everything she discovered,

that question remained unanswered.

Victoria smiled.

"Ask Amelia."

Charlotte turned.

Amelia stood near the doorway.

Her face was pale.

May you like

Because she knew.

The final secret was finally about to be revealed.
