Chapter 3 - The Room Full Of Secrets.

The morning after Charlotte Val returned to the Valmont Grand Hotel,
the entire building felt different.
Employees who had ignored her the previous night now watched her carefully.
Some looked embarrassed.
Others looked nervous.
A few quietly wondered how many things inside the hotel had been hidden from her.
Charlotte walked through the grand hallway beside Daniel Hayes.
Every painting on the wall represented a piece of her family's history.
Every golden frame carried a memory of the empire her father had built.
But something felt wrong.
The hotel looked perfect from the outside.
Yet behind the polished marble floors and expensive decorations,
Charlotte sensed years of carefully protected secrets.
"Daniel."
She said calmly.
"How long have you known about my return?"
The manager became quiet.
"Only a few days."
Charlotte stopped walking.
"A few days?"
Daniel looked uncomfortable.
"I received information that you might come back."
"From who?"
He hesitated.
That hesitation told Charlotte more than an answer could.
"Daniel."
Her voice became firmer.
"I need honesty now."
The manager took a deep breath.
"There were people who wanted to prevent you from coming here."
Charlotte's expression did not change.
"Who?"
Daniel looked toward the office doors ahead.
"The board members."
The answer was expected.
But hearing it still felt different.
For years, Charlotte had believed her father's company had simply moved on without her.
Now she realized something else.
Someone had made sure she stayed away.
They entered the executive conference room.
A long glass table filled the center.
Several executives were already waiting.
Among them was Victoria Sterling.
Her elegant white gown from the previous night had been replaced by an expensive business outfit.
But her attitude remained unchanged.
"Charlotte."
Victoria smiled.
"Nice to see you again."
Charlotte looked at her.
"You mean after you tried to remove me from my own hotel?"
The room became silent.
Victoria's smile disappeared for a moment.
"I believe there was a misunderstanding."
Charlotte sat down.
"No."
She placed the ownership document on the table.
"There was a decision."
"Someone decided I did not belong here."
Victoria looked away.
One of the executives cleared his throat.
"We should focus on business matters."
Charlotte turned toward him.
"That is exactly what I intend to do."
She opened a folder.
Inside were financial reports.
Old contracts.
And several documents she had collected during her investigation.
Daniel looked surprised.
"You already reviewed these?"
Charlotte nodded.
"During the past month."
The executives exchanged looks.
Victoria leaned forward.
"You have been investigating us?"
Charlotte looked directly at her.
"I have been investigating what happened to my family's company."
The room became colder.
Because everyone understood the difference.
Charlotte was not attacking them.
She was searching for answers.
And answers could destroy reputations.
"Your father trusted the wrong people."
Victoria said suddenly.
Charlotte looked at her.
"What does that mean?"
Victoria smiled slightly.
"It means Alexander Val was not as perfect as everyone remembers."
The statement created tension.
Charlotte's expression remained controlled.
"My father made mistakes."
She replied.
"Everyone does."
She leaned forward.
"But mistakes and betrayal are not the same thing."
Nobody spoke.
Victoria looked uncomfortable.
For the first time,
Charlotte was not the young woman they expected to control.
She was someone prepared.
Someone patient.
Someone dangerous in a completely different way.
Daniel placed another folder on the table.
"I found something this morning."
Charlotte opened it.
Inside was an old photograph.
Her father.
The original management team.
And one person standing beside him.
Someone Charlotte recognized immediately.
Her eyes narrowed.
Because the person in the photograph was someone she never expected to see.
Someone who had been close to her family.
Someone who had every reason to hide the truth.
The name written on the back of the photograph was only two words.
"Richard Sterling."
Victoria's father.
The room fell silent.
And Charlotte finally understood.
The conflict was not beginning today.
May you like
It had started years ago.
Before she ever walked through those doors.
