Chapter 14 - The Final Piece Of The Puzzle.

The note from Emily remained in Charlotte's hand.
Only one sentence.
But it created a storm of questions.
"I know who really betrayed your family."
"And the person you trust most is not who you think."
The words seemed impossible to ignore.
Charlotte looked around the archive room.
Daniel.
Thomas.
Amelia.
Everyone had a connection to the past.
Everyone had a reason to hide something.
But only one person knew everything.
Charlotte folded the note carefully.
"We need to find Emily."
Thomas nodded.
"She may have the answers."
Daniel looked uncertain.
"If she is still alive."
Charlotte turned toward him.
"You think she is not?"
Daniel hesitated.
"I think people who know too much often disappear."
The sentence created tension.
Because Daniel understood that more than anyone.
For years,
he had watched powerful people remove problems quietly.
Charlotte noticed his expression.
"You know something."
Daniel looked away.
"No."
Charlotte stepped closer.
"Daniel."
He finally looked at her.
"I know things happened."
"But I do not know everything."
Thomas crossed his arms.
"That is exactly what someone hiding something would say."
Daniel looked at him.
"You have no idea what I sacrificed to protect this family."
The room became silent.
Charlotte immediately noticed the emotion in his voice.
Not anger.
Pain.
"Explain."
Daniel took a deep breath.
"After your father disappeared, Richard wanted complete control."
"He tried to replace everyone loyal to Alexander."
"Many people left."
"Some were forced out."
"But I stayed."
Charlotte looked surprised.
"Why?"
Daniel looked at the old photographs.
"Because your father asked me to."
The answer changed everything.
"He knew he might not return."
Daniel continued.
"Before he disappeared, he told me something."
Charlotte stepped closer.
"What?"
Daniel looked at her.
'Protect Charlotte."
The words were quiet.
But powerful.
Charlotte felt her emotions change.
Her entire life,
she believed everyone had abandoned her.
But now she was discovering something different.
People had been protecting her.
Silently.
From the shadows.
Then Amelia spoke.
"There is still something we do not understand."
Everyone turned.
She pointed toward the documents.
"Richard wanted control."
"Emily knew."
"Thomas was manipulated."
"But none of them explains the final message from Alexander."
Charlotte looked at her.
"The person standing closest to me."
Amelia nodded.
"Yes."
The phrase remained in everyone's mind.
Who was closest?
Who had access?
Who had the ability to control everything?
Charlotte returned to the documents.
She reviewed every name.
Every signature.
Every decision.
Then she noticed something.
A pattern.
Every major change inside the hotel had one approval.
Not Richard.
Not Emily.
Not Thomas.
Someone else.
A name she had ignored because it seemed impossible.
Charlotte slowly whispered:
"Margaret."
Daniel looked confused.
"Margaret?"
Charlotte nodded.
"My father's attorney."
Everyone became silent.
Thomas looked shocked.
"That makes no sense."
"She helped your father."
Charlotte looked at the documents.
"Exactly."
"And that is why nobody suspected her."
They searched through the old files.
Minutes passed.
Then they found it.
A hidden authorization.
A legal power transfer.
Signed by Margaret years ago.
The document allowed her to make decisions if Alexander became unavailable.
Daniel stared.
"She had control."
Charlotte nodded.
"Temporary control."
"But temporary control became permanent."
The truth finally began to appear.
Margaret had not stolen the hotel.
She had protected it.
But then she made a choice.
A choice that changed everything.
She allowed Richard to influence decisions.
She allowed secrets to remain hidden.
Because she believed she was protecting Alexander's legacy.
But in doing so,
she helped create the disaster.
Charlotte looked at the final document.
A small note was attached.
Written by Margaret.
"I thought I was saving the family."
"But I only delayed the damage."
Before Charlotte could say anything,
her phone rang.
Unknown number.
She answered.
A weak voice appeared.
"Charlotte?"
She froze.
Because she recognized it.
It was Emily.
"I do not have much time."
Charlotte immediately stood.
"Where are you?"
Emily's voice trembled.
"I have the final evidence."
"What evidence?"
A pause.
"The proof of who ordered your father's disappearance."
The room became silent.
Charlotte held her breath.
"Tell me."
Emily whispered:
"It was not Richard."
A long pause.
"It was someone above him."
Charlotte felt a chill.
"Who?"
Before Emily could answer,
the call ended.
Charlotte stared at the phone.
The final answer was within reach.
May you like
But the person behind everything was still hidden.
And they were closer than anyone imagined.
