Chapter 2: The Truth Revealed

Julian guided Sarah and Leo into a quiet side room, far from the whispers of the wedding guests. He locked the door behind them. Sarah sat on a plush velvet sofa, holding Leo tightly in her lap.
"Tell us exactly what happened, buddy," Julian said.
Leo wiped his eyes. "Aunt Eleanor grabbed me in the hallway. She said if you guys got married, she would lose everything. She locked me in the bridal suite so I couldn't walk Mom down the aisle. She said she was going to take me away."

Sarah’s blood ran cold. Eleanor’s motive was purely financial. When Sarah’s first husband died, his massive estate and Leo's trust fund were temporarily managed by Eleanor, his sister. The strict terms of the will stated that Eleanor’s control ended the moment Sarah officially remarried. Eleanor was desperate to stop the wedding to keep the money.
Julian’s jaw tightened. "She’s not taking you anywhere, Leo. I promise you that." He pulled out his phone, his authoritative demeanor returning. "I’m ending this right now."
