The heavy kitchen doors had barely stopped swinging when the music violently cut out. A microsecond later, the massive crystal chandeliers died. The windowless ballroom plunged into pitch blackness.

A collective gasp ripped through the crowd, quickly escalating into panicked screams as glass shattered in the darkness.

Sarah did not hesitate. Relying on pure maternal instinct, she tackled Leo to the floor, dragging him under the heavy, floor-length tablecloth of the nearest banquet table. She curled her entire body over his, shielding him completely in the dark.

Above them, Julian moved with tactical precision. He didn't call out or reveal his position verbally. Instead, he pulled his phone, activated the high-beam flashlight, and held it out at arm's length. He swept the blinding beam across the chaotic dance floor, using the harsh light as a visual weapon to disorient anyone trying to approach his family in the dark.
