Chapter 14 - Unseen Observations

Eleanor Vance did not micromanage, but she always paid attention. From her corporate office downtown, she received weekly reports from the interim General Manager she had installed at The Grand Belmont.
"How is Mr. Hayes doing?" she asked during a quarterly review, sipping her black coffee.

The interim GM, a seasoned veteran named Marcus, smiled warmly. "He’s arguably the best Guest Services Coordinator I've ever had. At first, the staff was wary of him. They thought he was a spy, or just waiting to get his old job back. But he works the hardest shifts. He covers for people when they're sick. The staff respects him now. More importantly, they trust him."
Eleanor nodded slowly, a quiet satisfaction settling over her. She hadn't been sure if Brandon would survive the ego death she had forced upon him. Most men in his position would have quit, too proud to wear the uniform of a subordinate. But Brandon had stayed, and in doing so, he was slowly forging a spine made of character rather than arrogance.
