Chapter 4 - The Call

The tension in the lobby was palpable. Guests whispered behind gloved hands, waiting for security to escort the woman in the trench coat out. Chloe stood tall, a smug smile playing on her lips, waiting for Eleanor to retreat in humiliation.
Instead, Eleanor calmly reached into her coat pocket and retrieved her smartphone. She didn't break eye contact with Chloe as she tapped the screen.
"What are you doing?" Chloe scoffed. "Calling for a cab? Good idea."
Eleanor ignored her. She found the contact and pressed dial.
A few feet away, a cheerful ringtone suddenly pierced the heavy silence. Brandon froze in his tracks. He slowly reached into his suit jacket, pulling out his phone. His face drained of all color as he looked at the caller ID. It read: Eleanor Vance - OWNER.

His eyes darted from the screen to the woman in the soaked beige coat standing directly in front of his fiancé. He swallowed hard, his hands trembling as he lifted the phone to his ear.
"I'm calling your fiancé," Eleanor said, her voice smooth and unbothered, echoing perfectly with the voice on Brandon's phone.
