A week later, the autumn air was crisp and comforting. Sarah sat on a park bench, sipping a warm coffee while watching Lily climb on a jungle gym. The bandage was gone, leaving only a faint red mark that was rapidly fading. More importantly, Lily’s bright, bubbly laugh had returned.
Julian had been formally indicted. The judge, disgusted by the CCTV footage, had denied bail, citing him as a flight risk due to his mounting, shady gambling debts. The insurance fraud and child endangerment charges carried significant weight.
