Chapter 20 - A New Chapter

A year later, the harsh memories of the Crystal Ballroom felt like a distant lifetime. It was a warm Saturday afternoon, and Sarah’s modest backyard was decorated with bright, colorful streamers and balloons. It was Lily’s ninth birthday.
Unlike the stiff, pretentious gala that had nearly broken them, this party was filled with genuine joy. Children ran through the sprinklers, laughing hysterically, while parents sat on folding chairs, chatting comfortably and sharing homemade cupcakes. There were no tuxedos, no expensive crystal, and absolutely no secrets.

Sarah stood on the patio, holding a glass of lemonade, watching her daughter thrive. Lily was radiant. She wore a simple yellow sundress, and tied in her hair was a bright, pristine yellow ribbon that fluttered in the gentle breeze. She looked carefree, confident, and entirely safe.
As Lily ran up to her mother, throwing her arms around Sarah’s waist in a tight, joyful hug, Sarah rested her chin on the top of her daughter's head. She closed her eyes, listening to the beautiful sound of her child's laughter. They had faced the darkest side of human selfishness and emerged stronger, bound by a love that no amount of money or privilege could ever break.
