Chapter 14 - The Trial Begins
Despite Sterling’s warnings, Eleanor Harrington refused to let her son take a plea deal, insisting that a good defense team could sway a jury. Six months after the engagement party, the trial of The State v. Julian Harrington officially commenced.
The courtroom was packed with local reporters and curious onlookers. Sarah sat in the front row of the gallery, wearing a simple, professional navy suit. She had left Lily at home with her grandmother, shielding the eight-year-old from the harsh realities of the justice system.
When Sarah was called to the witness stand, she took the oath with a steady voice. The prosecuting attorney, a sharp woman named Ms. Davis, guided her through the events of that night.
"Can you describe the defendant's demeanor when he approached you and your daughter?" Ms. Davis asked.

"He was enraged and completely out of control," Sarah testified, making direct eye contact with the jury. "He towered over my eight-year-old daughter and accused her of theft. Before I could even process what was happening, he picked up a solid oak podium and threw it violently at our feet."
Sterling tried to object, trying to paint Julian's actions as a momentary lapse in judgment caused by panic, but Sarah's calm, unshakeable testimony anchored the truth in the room. She wasn't seeking revenge; she was simply stating the facts.
