Chapter 17 - The Sentencing

Two weeks after the guilty verdict, the courtroom was sparsely populated for the sentencing hearing. The media frenzy had moved on to the next scandal, leaving only the grim reality of the justice system in its wake. Julian stood before the judge, clad in an orange county-issued jumpsuit that stripped away any remaining illusion of his former grandeur.
Judge Harrison, a stern man with zero tolerance for the entitlement Julian had displayed, adjusted his glasses and looked down from the bench.
"Mr. Harrington, your actions were not only fraudulent but exceptionally cruel," the judge stated, his voice echoing in the quiet room. "You weaponized your physical size and your social standing against a vulnerable child to conceal your own financial mismanagement. The law does not recognize the balance of your bank account, nor does it excuse violence born of privilege."

The judge struck his gavel. "I sentence you to five years in state prison, with eligibility for parole only after serving a minimum of three years."
Julian closed his eyes, a silent tear tracking down his pale cheek. In the gallery, Eleanor sat entirely alone. The friends and socialites who had once flocked to her side were nowhere to be found. As the bailiff led Julian away to begin his sentence, Eleanor finally understood the true cost of her family's arrogance. They had lost everything that mattered.
