Chapter 4 - The Turning Point

Eleanor’s callous words hung in the air, cold and unforgiving. Sarah looked from the bleeding ribbon in her hands to the older woman’s dismissive sneer, and finally to Julian, who stood a few feet away, chest puffed out with arrogant triumph.
In that single moment, Sarah’s panic evaporated. The tears stopped falling. The terror that had gripped her heart was instantly incinerated, replaced by a deep, maternal fury so cold and focused it made the air in the room feel heavy.
Sarah gently pressed a clean piece of fabric to Lily’s head, whispering a soothing promise to her daughter. Then, she stood up.
She didn't shout. She didn't throw a tantrum. With a slow, deliberate grace, she closed the distance between herself and Julian. The groom held his ground, though a flicker of uncertainty crossed his eyes as Sarah stopped mere inches from his face.
She stared directly into his soul, her voice dropping to a dangerous, razor-sharp whisper that carried perfectly through the silent room.

Julian’s face went entirely slack. The arrogant smirk vanished, replaced by an expression of pure, wide-eyed terror as the color drained completely from his face.
