Chapter 26: The Seeds We Sow

Julian’s apartment was modest, filled with potted plants, stacked books on financial literacy, and the rich, comforting scent of homemade tomato sauce simmering on the stove. When Arthur and Clara arrived, Eleanor was already seated at the small dining table, happily sipping sparkling water and watching Julian slice fresh bread.

"Look at him," Eleanor said, her eyes shining as Arthur sat beside her. "A regular chef."

"Don't get used to it, Mom," Julian teased, bringing a bowl of fresh salad to the table. "This is a one-time special event."

Over dinner, the conversation flowed naturally—unburdened by hidden meanings, unspoken fears, or lingering tensions. Julian talked about his work at the community center, describing how several young adults in his program had successfully opened their first savings accounts.

"It’s strange," Julian reflected, looking around the table at his family. "For years, I thought running away was the only way to stay safe. But being here... taking responsibility... it's the first time I've ever felt truly free."
