Chapter 5 - A Name Without Mercy Elena demanded answers the next morning.

The man finally introduced himself.

“Julian Blackwood.”

The name meant nothing to her, but the cold certainty in his voice made it clear that he expected it to mean something.

“You kept us in a hole under the floor,” Elena said. “And now you expect me to listen to you?”

Julian stood by the window, his hands behind his back. “That hole was the only place in this house that wasn’t monitored.”

Elena stared at him.

He turned slightly. “Someone is inside this mansion. Someone dangerous. If they find you, they’ll use you to force the house open.”

“The house?” she repeated.

Julian’s jaw tightened. “You don’t understand what this place really is.”

Before she could answer, Lily tugged at Elena’s sleeve.

“Mommy, he’s not lying.”

The room went still.

Elena looked down at her daughter. “What did you hear?”

Lily hesitated. “In the hallway. They were talking. They said they had to wait until the meeting tonight.”

Julian’s eyes sharpened.

“And that,” he said quietly, “is exactly what I was afraid of.”
