Chapter 9 - The Key The key was not metal.
It was a file.
Hidden in the estate for years. Protected through lies, sealed inside the structure itself. Julian revealed that Elena’s mother had discovered records exposing illegal transfers, blackmail, and the disappearance of women who had worked for the Blackwood family over decades.
“Your mother hid the final copy,” Julian said. “And she trusted your father to keep it safe.”
Elena’s hands trembled. “Why me?”
“Because he knew they would search for his wife first,” Julian said. “Not his daughter.”
She looked at him sharply. “You knew my father?”
A painful expression crossed his face.
“Yes.”
Before she could ask more, Lily suddenly pointed toward the hallway.
“There’s someone outside.”
Julian went still.
He reached into his jacket and pulled out a small device, checking it once before turning to the guards.
Lock the east wing.
But it was too late.
A scream rang out from the corridor.
