Chapter 14: The Gallery Exhibit

Six months later, a small, independent art gallery downtown hosted a local showcase. Tucked away in a quiet corner was a series of four abstract acrylic paintings, signed simply with an "E."
Eleanor stood near her work, holding a glass of sparkling cider. She wore a comfortable, oversized cashmere sweater and dark jeans—a far cry from her pristine, intimidating corporate armor. For the first time, she was sharing a piece of her soul that had absolutely nothing to do with Vance Enterprises.
Marcus arrived midway through the evening, swapping his usual tailored suit for a dark turtleneck and a tweed blazer. He studied her paintings—swirls of dark, stormy grays giving way to vibrant, explosive yellows and soft blues.

"They're beautiful," Marcus said quietly, standing beside her. "There's a lot of resilience in these."
Eleanor smiled, a genuine, warm expression that reached her eyes. "Thank you, Marcus. It took a long time to find the right colors." In that small gallery, surrounded by strangers who didn't know her net worth or her painful history, Eleanor finally felt completely, undeniably free.
