Chapter 7: The Blank Canvas

A month later, the sprawling suburban estate was sold. Eleanor relocated to a modern, sunlit loft in the heart of downtown. It was a fraction of the size of her former home, featuring exposed brick walls, warm hardwood floors, and large windows that overlooked the city skyline. More importantly, it held no ghosts.
On her first Saturday in the new space, Eleanor unpacked a dusty cardboard box she had kept hidden in the attic for years. Inside were her old sketchbooks, a set of high-quality acrylic paints, and several blank canvases. Before marrying Julian, she had been a passionate amateur artist, but he had dismissed her hobby as a "distraction" from their social climbing.

She set up an easel by the window, the morning light spilling over the canvas. Dipping her brush into a vibrant shade of cerulean blue, she made the first stroke. It was shaky at first, but as she continued, the movement became fluid and confident.
For the first time in years, Eleanor wasn't analyzing profit margins or worrying about her husband's whereabouts. She was simply creating. The loft smelled of fresh paint and brewing coffee, and as she worked, a genuine, unburdened smile finally reached her eyes. She was rebuilding her life, stroke by stroke.
