Chapter 5: A New Era

The morning sun streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Vance Enterprises boardroom, catching the dust motes dancing over the massive mahogany table. Eleanor sat at the head of the table, not in the defensive posture she had adopted for years, but with her shoulders squared and her hands resting casually on the polished wood.
Before her sat the remaining senior executives. Five chairs were empty—the men who had conspired with Julian were already cleaning out their desks under the watchful eyes of corporate security.
"Let me be perfectly clear," Eleanor began, her gaze sweeping over the nervous faces of her management team. "The era of unchecked greed and backdoor dealings at this company is over. Vance Enterprises was built on innovation and integrity. Over the last three years, we lost sight of that."
An older executive, a man who had worked with Eleanor’s father, cleared his throat. "Ms. Vance, with Julian gone and the market reacting to the sudden shift in leadership... there will be turbulence. Our stock might take a hit."
"Let it take a hit," Eleanor responded without hesitation. "I would rather rebuild on a foundation of solid granite than maintain a house of cards. We are pulling funding from the unsustainable overseas acquisitions Julian championed. Instead, we are reinvesting in our domestic research and development sector."

She stood up, leaning slightly forward. "We are going to start creating real value again. Anyone who is not on board with transparency, hard work, and ethical practice is welcome to follow Julian out the door. For those who stay, we have a lot of work to do."
As she looked around the room, she saw the anxiety begin to melt into something else. Respect.
