Chapter 18: Unspoken Words

The top floor of the Vance Enterprises building was quiet, save for the soft jazz playing from Eleanor's office. It was late Friday evening, and they had just finalized the acquisition of a major solar energy firm—a clean, ethical deal that would propel the company into the next decade.

Marcus walked in, carrying two glasses and a bottle of expensive sparkling cider. He set them on her desk, pouring a measure into each.

"To a new era," Marcus said, raising his glass.

Eleanor clinked her glass against his. "To a new era, Marcus. And to the team that built it." She took a sip, studying the man who had been her steadfast ally through the darkest period of her life. "I never properly thanked you, you know. For that day in the parlor. You could have walked away when Julian tried his coup. You risked your career to help me secure those shares."

Marcus smiled softly, a rare break in his usually stoic demeanor. "I never worked for Julian, Eleanor. I worked for the true visionary of this company. I just waited for you to see yourself the way I always did."

The words hung in the air, warm and deeply anchoring. There was a profound, unspoken bond between them—a partnership forged in fire and rooted in absolute mutual respect.
