Chapter 12 - HealingThe weeks that followed were a quiet sanctuary of healing. Catherine’s pneumonia cleared, and the color returned to her cheeks. She spent her afternoons on the penthouse balcony, reading books and watching the sailboats drift across the bay.

James worked mostly from home, refusing to let the company consume him the way it once had. He cooked dinners, burning the garlic bread more often than not, but the kitchen was always filled with laughter.

One evening, as Annie slept on the sofa, James wrapped a blanket around Catherine’s shoulders on the balcony.

"It's just beginning," James corrected her, wrapping his arms around her. "We lost six months, Cath. I intend to spend the next sixty years making up for it."
