Catherine walked in, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You don't have to read it."

"I know," James sighed. He didn't open it. He walked over to the paper shredder and fed the envelope into the machine, listening to the satisfying whir as the toxic words were destroyed unread.
"Some bridges are meant to stay burned," he said, turning to kiss Catherine. "Come on. We have a ribbon-cutting ceremony to get to."
