Chapter 19 - New RootsTo accommodate their growing family, they finally moved out of the penthouse and into a sprawling, comfortable house in the suburbs. It had a big backyard, ancient oak trees, and a wrap-around porch. It was exactly the kind of house Eleanor would have scoffed at.

James spent the weekend digging in the dirt, planting a small cherry blossom tree in the center of the yard. Annie helped him, her hands covered in mud, while Catherine watched from the porch, resting a hand on her growing belly.
"It needs lots of water, right, Dad?" Annie asked, patting the soil.

"Lots of water, and strong roots," James said, wiping his brow. He looked back at the house, at Catherine smiling in the sunlight. "If the roots are strong, it can survive any storm."
He knew then that they had finally planted their own roots, deep and unbreakable.
