Chapter 17 - A Quiet ChristmasChristmas arrived without the usual stress of high-society galas or the crushing expectations of the Sterling legacy. There were no caterers, no crystal chandeliers, and no forced smiles.

Instead, they spent it in a rented cabin in the snowy mountains. The living room smelled of pine and roasting turkey. Annie was on the floor, happily unwrapping a modest pile of toys, laughing as the family’s new golden retriever pup playfully stole her wrapping paper.
James sat on the couch with a mug of cider, watching them. He realized he didn't miss the wealth or the prestige. True wealth was sitting right in front of him.
