Chapter 7 - A Safe HavenBy morning, James had arranged for Catherine's immediate transfer. They did not go to the sprawling Sterling estate. Instead, James took them to a private, sunlit penthouse overlooking the bay—a property solely in his name, a place his mother had never set foot in.

Catherine was settled into a plush, king-sized bed, surrounded by the warmth of a crackling fireplace and the scent of fresh lavender. A private nurse checked her vitals, offering a reassuring smile before stepping out.
Annie was happily curled up at the foot of the bed, watching cartoons on a massive television, finally feeling safe. James sat on the edge of the mattress, gently stroking Catherine’s hair.

"It feels like a dream," Catherine murmured, her color already returning slightly. "I'm terrified I'll wake up back in the shelter."
"You are never going back there," James promised, kissing her forehead. "Rest now. When you wake up, I have to go to the office. It's time to clean house."
